Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that each state develop a procedure for informing the general public when a sexual offender is located in their community.
Megan was just seven years old when a prior sex offender that resided accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and killed her.
